Thanksgiving Table with Tableau Events and BLOOM

25 Nov Thanksgiving Tablescape Inspiration

For those looking for last minute Thanksgiving table inspiration today I have a little holiday shoot from the archives I created with BLOOM floral design in our Petoskey studio a season or so back that I’d love to share with you. Taking a little break from the traditional harvest colors, I paired dramatic black and cream velvety fabric with glistening mercury and glass candlelight. Each place setting featured a gilded gold pumpkin, tacked with a personalized seating card and flat black plateware paired perfectly with cut crystal accents. The stunning jewel toned floral took center stage while the sliced figs and fruit embellishments became delectable edible table accents.

Here are my (current) five favorite tips on how to embellish your holiday table this year:

  1. Create a focal point with fabric: Find an interesting pattern or textured fabric at your local craft store and layer with an existing tablecloth or use as a runner or an asymmetrical drape with corners hanging off the sides to add dimension and interest to your table. No sewing required. You can just snip and tear edging to size for an organic frayed finish or use peel and heat adhesive with an iron for a clean finish. I love doing both based on the style of the event.
  2. Go big with candlelight: Mix up your containers and even add naked pillars to the table for an dramatic and unintentional variation to the standard votive presentation.
  3. Add edible accents: Pick up fruit and nuts that coordinates with your table decor and scatter for a charming and filling accent. I personally love incorporating apples, oranges and pears to my tables when entertaining on the fly.
  4. Add personalized papery: There are so many free printable websites out there with amazing templates but if you are in a hurry, a handwritten menu and seating card is just as lovely and even more personal. No premium paper necessary, I have used recycled kraft paper bags, cut to size with metallic sharpies and it comes out amazing!
  5. Last but not least, drinks on the table:  I LOVE wine with dinner and love decorating with bottles mixed in as decor. However, if you are not serving wine, you can have the same effect with clear or colored glass bottles (Pellegrino is my favorite) or water pitchers with fruit for added color.

I hope this little bit of last minute inspiration helps with your holiday entertaining!  Wishing you an amazing Thanksgiving holiday with loved ones this year!

01 Oct The Bloom Workshop

There’s no better way to refresh the creative spirit than to spend a beautiful Fall day in a truly magical venue with some of Michigan’s most savvy creatives. That’s what I had the pleasure of doing at The Petite BLOOM workshop at Hydrangea Blu barn in Rockford. It was everything I had hoped for and more! The day was filled with networking with local professionals, learning calligraphy technique from the talented Molly Jacques , floral design from the lovely Rhiannon of Hey Gorgeous Events, styling tips from Michaela Noelle and photography tricks from Ashley Slater Photography. By the end of the day, I felt inspired and thankful surrounded by like minded ladies. Truly a glorious experience!

24 Apr New York Bridal Fashion Week

When I started Tableau Events, I never imagined that one day I’d have the pleasure of attending New York Bridal Fashion Week. However, thanks to one of our gracious clients, I was honored to be a guest at the incomparable Carolina Herrera Spring 2016 bridal collection located in their Atelier in Manhattan. The showroom was jaw dropping and as chic as you would imagine it to be. Elegant cabana striped seating and dramatic boxwood dominated the creamy blank canvas walls while the massive windows let in the New York City light. However, my favorite feature was the perfectly curated bookshelf nestled in the center of the offices. A quintessential focal point with its bold punch of vibrant colored book bindings. To see this gorgeousness for yourself, you must check out this stunning feature in Vogue.

Honestly I could’ve walked in and out and immediately made a check on my bucket list. Yet instead, I was seated to my personalized location complete with a custom designed sweet treat to coordinate with the floral inspiration for the collection, Jasmine. As a designer and lover of small details, I was smitten. As the show began, I found myself in a surreal state of mind as couture gowns swept by me. Every piece of the collection was jaw dropping and flawless. And while my eyes were captivated by the fairy tale works of art just arms length in front of me, my conscious was registering the fact that I was sitting alongside some of the most influential and inspiring writers and photographers in the wedding industry previewing together, the works of one of the most talented fashion designers in the world.

I’m not sure if it was the euphoric high of the evening or if I thought I was hallucinating but after the show, I introduced myself to Mrs. Herrera and congratulated her on such a beautiful collection which she graciously replied, “thank you.”  Truly an event I’ll never forget!
